I have been practicing and dusting off my Magic skillz for the past week now, and have done one PTQ qualifier so far. With the current domination or Foundry and dark depths deck, I am trying to find a good balance for my deck.
I chose to go with Scapeshift, and try to make a deck that would use Sarkhan Vol. Most of the winning decks do not have planeswalker in them, and I am trying to find if you can really have one useful. For 4 mana, Sarkhan can steal another player’s creature twice, and if left by himself for 3 turn bring in 4 flying 4/4 dragons…. SO my first attempt was to go with the Scarland Thrinax, and a green, black, red deck..
My first PTQ ended up being not great. I ranked 56 out of 127 players… meh..
I found Greater gargadon to be a better steal/sac engine, and also found out about two cards I have not seen at all around: the red membrane, and the tilling treefolk to give some ability to reuse sac lands over as well as resist better to lands destroy decks (not too common in the metagame at the high levels, but still a threat to any scapeshift…)
I nicknamed my deck Sarkhan’s Scape, and here is what I am going to use for the next San Juan PTQ
